The Greenies Basketball team is Conference Champions once again after a fantastic team win on Saturday night at Asheville Christian Academy. After falling to the Lions twice in the regular season, Christ School defeated ACA, 65-53 to win the Conference Tournament and the conference crown. "It was a great team win," said Brad Halvorsen '19. Halvorsen who was named All-Conference the night before finished with a team high 17 points. "After the first quarter, we were locked in on both offense and defense." Eight Greenies scored including four in double figures with Norance Berry '20, Trey Austin '19, Kojack Thompson '19 joining Halvorsen with 10 or more.
After trailing 19-15 after the first quarter, the Greenies outscored Asheville Christian by 16 in the remaining three quarters to win the game. "We really showed what the team is capable of," said Kojack Thompson, who was also named All-Conference. "This is right where we wanted to be heading into playoffs. We are ready to make some noise in the NCISAA." The Greenies will need to wait a bit, as they received the #8 seed and earned a first round bye. Christ School will host the second round of the 4A playoffs on Thursday when they play either winner of Wesleyan Christian and conference for Rabun Gap, who the Greenies have already beaten three times this year. Though the time is still to be annouced, the Greenies will most likely play around 6:00PM on Thursday. Thursday's winner heads to Charlotte Christian on Saturday for the Quarterfinals.
