The Christ School Varsity Boys Basketball team capped off a huge weekend with perhaps the most exciting quarter of the season. After defeating High Point Christian Academy, 93-70 on Friday, in which nine Greenies scored, the team welcomed #3 Providence Day School on Saturday. Leading by just five after halftime, the Greenies blew the doors off Providence Day with an incredibly eight three pointers in the third quarter. Trey Austin '19, Kojack Thompson '19, Ben Craig '19, Brandon Stone '19 and Jalen Lecque '19 all had threes, including a Lecque three from half court at the buzzer. Heading into the quarter the Greenies lead 29-24. At the end of the third, the score was 61-39.
Head Coach Jeff Depelteau praised quite a few of his players after the game. "Justice Ajogbor '20 dominated in the paint en route to a double-double. He was able to cap off plays with thunderous dunks that really got our crowd involved. Jalen Lecque '19 was a handful for Providence Day today. He finished the game with 26 points, 10 rebounds and a season-high 15 assists. That type of unselfishness from a point guard is imperative for a team's success."
Also leading the way for Christ School was Brandon Stone '19, who secured his fifth double-double in a row with 17 points and 12 rebounds. "He did a fantastic job guarding the perimeter against the quick PDS guards," said Coach Depelteau.
Two big wins have the Greenies feeling good heading into perhaps the most anticipated match-up of the month as the team heads on the road to face Asheville Christian Academy on Tuesday at 6:15 PM. Playing at ACA has notoriously been a difficult task, though the team has won their last three games there. The team has two other games this week, Asheville School, Friday on the road and Knoxville Christian on Saturday at home.
