ASHEVILLE - The voice and the team behind back-to-back state championships for Christ School basketball were big winners at Sunday’s 62nd annual Western North Carolina Sports Awards Banquet presented by Ingles.

One of their first acts as Greenie alumni were Henry Stuart ’24 and Lleyton Thomas-Johnson ’24 representing the program at the Omni Grove Park Inn in Asheville.

Henry, who called games this season alongside Wait McCormick ‘26, received the Pat Ryan Memorial Scholarship for Sports Broadcasting, valued at $1,500. Henry, who is from Charlotte, will use the scholarship to pursue his dream of a professional broadcasting career at the University of Mississippi.

Lleyton accepted the Fields Auto Group Award for Division II Male Team on behalf of the Greenies (26-5), who completed their season Feb. 24 with a 56-45 win over Charlotte Providence Day in the NCISAA 4-A state finals.

Lleyton was one of nine seniors for Christ School, which finished ranked No. 61 in the country by MaxPreps. Lleyton's hometown is Asheville, and he has signed to play in college for Washington University in St. Louis.

The WNC Sports Awards Banquet is conducted each year by the Mountain Amateur Athletic Club and began in 1959.
