With the month of February now here, every game left is magnified for Christ School basketball.
Not only is the final week of the regular season upon us. The varsity Greenies are assured of a shot at a conference championship next weekend.
The JV and varsity teams will have Winter Break in the rear-view mirror Wednesday when they return to action with a doubleheader against visiting Legacy Early College (S.C.). Game times are 5 p.m. (JV) and 6:30 (varsity). There will be special concessions sold and a 50-50 raffle to benefit Christ School’s involvement with the next Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity student build. Raffle tickets are $1 each or $5 for three tickets, with the winner drawn at the end of the varsity game’s third quarter.
The varsity game will be streamed by the Christ School Broadcast Network at this link: https://youtu.be/urTK-kvc_ZY.
The Christ School JV (3-10) completes its season Friday with a 3:45 game at Asheville School. One day later, coach Matt Cioce ‘13 and the varsity Greenies (12-11) play in the Carolinas Athletic Association championship game at Rabun Gap (Ga.). Saturday's tip-off time is 4 p.m.
The CAA final should be especially intriguing as the teams split their previous two meetings – Christ School won soundly at home, 103-80, on Dec. 16 and fell by a similar margin at Rabun Gap, 90-69, on Jan. 21. Leading scorers for the Greenies are De’Ante Green ’22 (15.0 points per game), Justice Ajogbor ’20 (12.6 ppg.), and Drew Redmond ’21 (8.7 ppg.). Rebounding-wise, the team has relied the most on Justice (7.4 rpg.) and De’Ante (5.0 rpg.), while Drew is far and away tops in assists with 4.0 a night.
