Garrett Clapsaddle ’21 made it his goal to play college baseball, with the added bonus of doing it for a service academy.
The Christ School senior checked both boxes Monday by committing to the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
“I would like to thank God, my parents, all my coaches, and Christ School for helping me along this journey,” Garrett said in a social media post announcing his choice.
Garrett’s hometown is Murphy, N.C., and this is his third year as a Greenie. He primarily plays catcher, but can also provide depth in the outfield and pitch. Garrett becomes the 10th student-athlete from Christ School’s Class of 2021 to make a college sports commitment.
Off the field, he serves as a Prefect in Cuningham House and is a member of the National Honor Society and Veterans Service Club.
The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy is located in Kings Point, N.Y., and trains students in a variety of fields, including marine engineering, navigation, ship administration, maritime law, personnel management, international law, customs, and many other topics which are essential to managing a large vessel.
