Jamal Hutchison '23 Repeats as Skyview Open Amateur Champion


ASHEVILLE - Jamal Hutchison ‘23 repeated himself Thursday, winning the Skyview Open amateur championship for the second year in a row. 

Jamal had a chip-in on the 54th and final hole to finish it out with his father, Robert P’23, looking on. His three-day score was 9-under 207 (63-70-74) and Jamal began the final round one stroke off the lead. 

Hall of Fame basketball coach Roy Williams saw a portion of the Greenie’s round the previous day at Asheville Municipal Golf Course. Jamal is from Fletcher, N.C., and a rising sophomore at N.C. Central University.

Christ School alumnus Cory Sciupider ‘12 tied for seventh place in the professional division with a three-day score of 11-under 205 (69-68-68). 

The Skyview Open began in 1960 and has been held every year since then except 2020 (due to the COVID-19 pandemic).
