RALEIGH – Mikey Wilkins ’25 was minding his business off the ball Saturday.
A Grace Christian player who was in motion put two hands on Mikey’s chest, giving him a shove that was enough to startle the 6-foot-9, 243-pound senior.
No foul was called, but a response was given, and in the best way.
Mikey asked for the ball after a change of possession, spun around his defender and drove the baseline, furiously dunking in two of his 16 points for Christ School.
Mikey gave the N.C. State coaching staff an eyeful Friday and Saturday, the same for the rest of the crowd at the John Wall Holiday Invitational. He and fellow senior Madden Collins ’25 (14 points) were named to the all-tournament team following Saturday's 67-31 win over undermanned Grace Christian in the finals of the T.J. Warren bracket at Broughton High School.
Dacen Petty ’26 added 12 points, followed by Koen Booker ’27 (nine), Mason Collins ’28 (seven), Tyler Jones ’26 (seven), and Thomas Vickery ’27 (two).
Madden (10) and Mikey (seven) accounted for all of Christ School's points in the first quarter and the lead was 37-17 at halftime. Koen scored all his points in the second quarter for one of the best outputs of his sophomore season.
This is the first holiday tournament championship of any kind for the Greenies since 2011. They are outscoring opponents by an average of 24.5 points and have won 21 consecutive games, a streak that began last January.
Mikey, who has signed with the Wolfpack, had 21 points and 21 rebounds on Friday as Christ School downed Knightsdale, 77-40.
The team does not play again until Jan. 7 at Carolina Day, which is the Carolinas Athletic Conference opener for the Greenies. They are currently ranked 11th in the country by MaxPreps.
