Brendan Regan ’24 spoke earlier in the day about coming through when there is no margin for error.
His feet were doing the talking in the first round of the NCISAA 4-A state soccer playoffs.
Brendan’s putback goal just 4 minutes and 22 seconds into the game, not to mention his play on Christ School’s back line, propelled the Greenies to Tuesday’s 3-0 win over visiting Metrolina Christian Academy.
Brendan is from Rockville, Md., which is about a 15-hour round trip drive from campus. Therefore, his family does not get to attend all the defender’s games, but they were in Arden on Tuesday as Brendan gave his Senior Speech in Chapel.
Declan Szostczuk ’26 pried the ball away from two defenders for his team-best fifth goal of the season in the second half. Fellow sophomore Felix Huebner ’26 made a pair of saves for his third shutout.
Assists were credited to Carter Compton ’24 and Jimmy Mennell ’24, two of 12 seniors who in all likelihood played their final home game Tuesday.
The Greenies (9-10-1) led the Warriors (9-12) by a 2-0 score at halftime as a result of Brendan’s goal and an own goal in the first 10 minutes.
Christ School advances to play at seventh-seeded Charlotte Providence Day (9-11) on Thursday at 6 p.m. The two teams met Aug. 28 with the Chargers taking a 3-1 win on their home field, but Felix was injured at the time.
