Update: New Dining Hall Progress
Watching the progress of the new dining hall has been an entertaining activity for students and faculty on their way to class or the playing fields. This week held a particularly magnificent transformation as the wooden beams topping the outdoor portion of the dining hall were installed.
According to Director of Finance and Facilities Danny Elmer, most of the concrete work is complete and the roof and trusses are currently being installed. The new classrooms have been framed in where the former art room was located, and there has been quite a bit of electrical and plumbing work done under the kitchen. The custom design allows for partial use of the dining hall, while the other half is under construction. When the new dining hall is completed, the dining space and kitchen will be nearly doubled and will feature covered outdoor eating and recreational space, an indoor and outdoor fireplace, and a separate private dining room that will be used for Board Meetings and formal dining occasions. We are on schedule to move over to the “new” side during Christmas break, and the project will be complete by the first week of May 2016.
