Ryan Zwier '16 Rock Solid for Shoremen
Christ School alum batting .410, wins conference player of the week award
Baseball in March is many things, but it is never boring. Look no further than Ryan Zwier '16 and his team at Washington College (Md.). They were digging out from seven inches of snow last week, the same week in which Zwier was named the Centennial Conference Player of the Week. Zwier is a second-year catcher for the Shoremen (15-3), and was a batting a team-high .410 with 11 RBIs, 11 doubles (also a team-best total), and a home run after Saturday's 10-2 road win at Gallaudet in Washington, D.C.
Question: Individually, what did it mean to you to be recognized as a conference player of the week, and what are your overall thoughts on the team?
Answer: I would say I'm thankful for the award but I'm not going to see this award and be satisfied with where I'm at. Personally, I feel I can do better and contribute more to the success of the team. We're a lot better than last year as a team. I would say the thing that stands out the most is our pitchers' ability to command multiple pitches, get ahead in the count, and throw strikes. We're not giving up free bases, and when you do that, you can play free and loose.
Question: How are things working out in the classroom for you? Do you have a major yet?
Answer: Yes, I am a double major in Computer Science and Mathematics. My schedule is crazy. It seems like I have something to do every 10 minutes. It could be practice, a tutoring session, interviewing for internships. It's pretty chaotic this time of year.
Question: You were a student here at Christ School not so long ago. What are your memories of being a Greenie?
Answer: I look back and think of all the great friends – I call them brothers – who really accepted me and made it a great experience. One thing that was really instilled in me was setting aside time every night to work on academics, whether you have homework or not. Just study, whether you have a test coming up or not.
