Greenies Win Awards at Local Writing Festival
Christ School boys recognized for poetry, non-fiction work
Friday's Montreat College Creative Writing Festival was much more than a learning experience for Emily Pulsifer's students.
Christ School brought back several awards, including a first-place prize in the Ruth Belle Graham Poetry category for Lux Haney-Jardine '20. This was the third year that Pulsifer has taken the Greenies to the Asheville-area festival.
"It was really wonderful," Pulsifer said. "The director came up to me afterwards and said they were so impressed with the quality of work from all the kids, even the ones who didn't win awards. It was very satisfying to see them recognized."
Max Redic '20 was a runner-up in Poetry, while Wilton Graves '21 was third in Ruth Belle Graham Poetry. Honorable mention went to Jacob Dowler '19 in Ruth Belle Graham Poetry, Richard Lytle '20 in Fiction, and Eli Dowler '21 in Poetry.
In addition to recognition from the festival judges, the Greenies attended creative fiction and poetry workshops, and listened to a talk from Montreat author Dr. William Forstchen. Max and Kobi Selby '19 participated in a public reading.
