Andrew Hammel '20 Award WNC Runner of the Year

After a successful Cross Country season in which he bested every WNC runner he faced, Andrew Hammel '20 has been named Western North Carolina Runner of the Year. Andrew ran a season best of 15:39.58 (breaking the 10-year-old school record), placed first in the CAA and Buncombe County meets, and placed fifth at the state meet, losing only to four seniors.

More impressive than any of his finishes is his humble nature, leadership, and determination. Head Cross Country and Track Coach Randy Ashley, who joined Christ School three years ago, says, "Andrew's work ethic and his drive is what put him in position to get this award. He is an embodiment of what we would like as a student-athlete, a kid who wants to excel and wants to put in the work. Andrew is filling the foundation for what it means to be a true Greenie."

Andrew ends the season as the #1 sophomore in North Carolina. We are so proud of his determination and look forward to seeing what this year's Track and Field season will bring.
