Basketball Finishes Runner-up at State


For just the second time in school history, the Greenies basketball program finished as the state runner-ups. Christ School finished as the runner ups in 2006, and on Saturday, after an amazing close the season, the Greenies fell to Greensboro Day School, 65-53 in the 4A NCISAA State Championship. After heading into the conference championship second overall, the team rattled off back to back wins against Rabun Gap and Asheville Christian to take home the Conference Championship.

After those games, the Greenies received a #8 seed and a first round bye, then defeated Rabun Gap in the second round and upset #1 Charlotte Christian 52-45 in the Quarterfinals. This past weekend the team headed to Ravenscroft for the Final Four weekend took on #4 Charlotte Latin in the Semi-Finals. Christ School and the Greenies were in control from start to finish defeating Charlotte Latin, 55-46. e

In the final game of the season, the Greenies took on two time defending State Champion #2 Greensboro Day who came in to the game with a 29-5. A back and forth affair saw Christ School tied at with 3:00 minutes to go. A couple of tough buckets put the Bengals ahead for good and their third championship in a row.

Christ School finished with a final record of 16-14 after being three games under .500 heading into the playoff season. Three seniors, Trey Austin, Brad Halvorsen and Kojack Thompson will graduate for the Greenies and will be missed after each playing three seasons for the Greenies.
