Christ School Football Defeats Charlotte Latin, 28-13
The Christ School offense has been putting up historical numbers in 2018, averaging nearly 50 points per game. Yet, it was the Christ School defense that led the way on Friday night against a 5-2 Charlotte Latin team. Through three and a half quarters, the Greenies defense led by Jasper Thomas '20 and Read Sunn '20 held Latin scoreless. In that time, the Christ School offense put up 28 points to give the Greenies an insurmountable lead heading in to the final eight minutes.
In the first quarter, Keyvaun Cobb '19 got the Greenies on the board with a 59-yard run to go up 7-0. Then early in the second, Kaedin Robinson '19 made it a two-score game with a 70-yard punt return for a touchdown. Christ School's stifling defense in the first half, was especially tough for Charlotte Latin, because Otto Thom '19, Ian Adams '21, Nathaniel Carson '20 and Saevion Gibbs '20 pushed the Hawks back at every opportunity.
The third quarter was more of the same with an early shovel pass from Navy Shuler '20 to Cobb going 50 yards for the touchdown. After a three and out from Latin, the Greenies scored on their fourth play over 50 yards with a 63-yard pass from Shuler to Aydan White '20.
Charlotte Latin scored in the middle of the fourth, and on a 40-yard bomb as time expired, but the Greenies came away with the 28-13 victory. The Greenies move to 6-1 on the season heading into a matchup with Providence Day on the road next Friday. That game will be at 7:00 PM.
