Christ School Football Hosts Cannon School

For the first time in nearly half a decade, Christ School football will face the Cougars of Cannon School. Both teams come into the game having won their first game and lost their second. Cannon School defeated North Raleigh Christian Academy, 38-0, but lost to Mitchell High School, 27-6 in their game last Friday.

Leading the way for the Cougars on the ground will be Gabe Ortiz '19, having rushed for two touchdowns and 142 yards on just 18 carries. The team averages nearly 110 yards on the ground but just 90 in the air. Their defense is senior-led with Timmy Jones, Gabe Szilagyi and Brandon Turner combining for 57 tackles.

The Greenies, on the other hand, will be without Sidney Gibbs' '19 in their rushing attack. Filling in for the injured All-State Running Back is Dillon Tarves '20, who has seen time in both games this season. Navy Shuler '20, who comes into the game with 35 completions, five touchdowns and just one interception will look to his favorite target, Kaedin Robinson '19. Robinson who holds an offer to Gardner Webb, has 12 catches for 283 yards and four touchdowns on the year. Robinson also serves as safety, punt and kick returner as well as a punter this year. Look for him to see some time as running back on Friday as well.

Defensively, facing some injuries in the secondary, the Greenies linebackers will look to stop the rushing attack of the Cougars with Read Sunn '20, West Shuler '19, and Jasper Thomas '20. The three have been great from the position this year, and their ability to shut down Cannon School's running backs could be the matchup to watch out for. On the defensive line, both Ross Oakley '19 and Ian Adams '21 have been integral members of the defense for the Greenies.
