Recent graduate Faris Serafim '18, a former all-conference soccer player who suffered an ACL tear early in the 2017 season, has decided to continue his career at Lees-McRae College. Faris was also chosen by his classmates to be Christ School's student speaker for the 118th Commencement on May 20. We caught up with Faris early in the summer to ask about his college decision.
Question: What was it about Lees-McRae that help you make this choice?
Faris: Lees-McRae has given me an opportunity to show that after tearing my ACL I can come back and be that much stronger. They were the only school that kept their faith in me and continued to recruit me after my injury. Being close to home will also be a bonus for me. I will enjoy having my family and friends watch games. I promised my dad that I would play college soccer and I am beyond blessed to be given the opportunity and will make the most of it.
Question: How has Coach Campbell helped prepare you for this opportunity?
Faris: Coach (Guy) Campbell really helped me grow as a soccer player but more as a person and showed me that there is more to life than soccer. He pushed us to be our very best on the field and in life which really gave me a great experience the three years I was at Christ School.
Question: How did your decision to come Christ School help in giving you this opportunity?
Faris: Christ School prepared me to be a college soccer player by challenging me on and off the field. It has helped me with time management, especially juggling school and soccer. Christ School also supported me through all my injuries and successes and for that I am so thankful.
Lees McRae finsihed 11-5-3 last season before falling to Mt. Olive in the semifinals of the Conference Carolinas tournament.
