Greenie Cross Country Wraps Up Season Strong at State Meet

On Friday Oct. 26, the Christ School cross country team ran the last race of the season at the NCISAA Cross Country State Championships. The meet was held under extreme weather issues at Jackson Park in Hendersonville. "It was the worst footing, the worst that I have seen in 37 years of running and coaching cross country," said Head Coach Randy Ashley.

As was the case all season, the Greenies were led by Andrew Hammel '20 and Joseph Visconti '20. The two finished 2nd and 3rd to earn All-State honors. Andrew and Joseph broke away from the pack early, separating themselves from all but one runner. Andrew pushed the pace from the 800-meter mark through the 2-mile mark before giving up the lead to eventual winner Christian Landis of Providence Day School. Running remarkably strong races were Miles Gardner, Jack Cross, and William Saye. They were followed closely by Kilian Mittermeier and Connor Rowe.

These athletes finished well ahead of their projected places and help the squad earn a 5th place team finish. This is highest team finish for Greenies cross country since 1990. The effort by these athletes shows the fortitude of a Greenie cross country runner.
