Greenies Fall 2-1 in Baseball State Quarterfinals

On Saturday, the #5 Christ School baseball team traveled to #4 Charlotte Country Day to compete in the 3A NCISAA State Quarterfinals. Through four innings Hunter Macomber '19 had held the Bucs scoreless, and an RBI single by Mac Gortney '19 had the Greenies leading 1-0.

Chad Treadway '19 came in and held the Bucs scoreless in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings, but heading into the seventh the Greenies were unable to put any insurance runs on the board and went into the final frame leading just 1-0. Treadway '19 was able to get to two outs in the bottom of the seventh with back-to-back fly outs, but Charlotte Country Day was able to squeeze out a run forcing extra innings.

Neither team was able to get anything going in the eighth inning, and the Greenies headed to the ninth inning with Treadway still on the mound. With the bases loaded and just one out, a Bucs player was hit by a pitch and the Bucs came out with a 2-1 victory.

The Greenies finished with a school record best 22 wins and just three losses. Unfortunately, the Greenies will say goodbye to six seniors, including McKinley Bell, Will Goosmann, Jackson Hipp, Jeffrey Hester, TJ Searle, and Gabe Blevins.
