Greenies Fall to State Champion Greensboro Day in Semi-Finals
Varsity Basketball's season came to an end on Friday at the hands of nationally ranked Greensboro Day in the 3A NCISAA State Semi-Finals. The Greenies fell 75-60. The game was tied at the half 32-32, but a few turnovers and some unfortunate bounces to start the third saw Greensboro Day begin to pull away. The Bengals, who were the defending state champions, shot brilliantly from the floor, making it difficult for the Greenies to come back.
While the season did not end the way they wanted it, the Greenies do not graduate a single player and will have seven senior leaders next year, including three all conference players in Justice Ajogbor '20, Brandon Stone '19, and Jalen Lecque '19.
"We're excited about our returners next year," said Head Coach Jeff Depelteau. "We were a young team this year that achieved quite a bit. We faced so many tough opponents, and getting to the Final Four allows us to push ourselves even harder to get back here next season."
The Greenies finished their season 23-13 under first year Head Coach Jeff Depelteau.
Greensboro Day went on to win their 10th State Championship under the coaching of Freddy Johnson, defeating Wesleyan Christian, the #22 ranked team in the country , 67-53.
