Greenies Have Successful Kentucky Invitational
On Saturday February 17, 2018, the Christ School Indoor Track squad competed at the University of Kentucky Invitational in Lexington, KY. The meet was held inside of Nutter Field House on a frigid and rainy day. The boys represented Greenie Nation well with strong performances.
Kevin Snyder '19 led the squad with a 1st place in the Triple Jump and a 3rd place in the Long Jump. He also set a personal best in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.09. This time is a qualifier for the Emerging Elite section at the New Balance Indoor National Championship meet in New York City on March 9-11, 2018. Also qualifying for the Emerging Elite section of Nationals was Keyvaun Cobb '19 with a time 49.85 in the 400 meters and Andrew Hammel '20 with a time of 9:30.81. Keyvaun's time makes him the 3rd member of the Cobb family to break 50 seconds for the 400. He joins his father, Christ School track coach Demeseh Cobb, and Christ School 400 meter record holder Kokayi Cobb '17 in the sub 50 400 club. Andrew Hammel '20 past the 3200 meter mark at 9:27.50, which is an 8 second personal best from his record a month earlier at Liberty University. His time also breaks his own school record.
Juan Mantilla '19 ran a strong race in the 800, setting a personal best of 2:02.10. Juan only found out moments before his race that he was not accepted in the 400 meter race, and thus had to run the 800 if he wanted to compete. He handled the switch with gusto and raced fiercely. Also competing for Christ School were Eddy Sherman '19, Kiki Alcime '20, and Joseph Visconti '20.
