Greenie Soccer Takes Two From Asheville Christian Academy
It was a great day for Greenie Soccer on Tuesday as both the Junior Varsity and Varsity teams left the field victorious.
JV Soccer, led by two goals from Aaron Chen '20, defeated Asheville Christian Academy, 2-0. "Aaron provided us with a great spark today," said Assistant JV Coach Thomas Becker. "His ability to be in the right place at the right time as well as putting his power through the ball allowed the Greenies to lead 2-0 at the half." The defense for Christ School was fantastic all game with great play coming from Tyler Bell '21, Tommy Schleusner '20 and Max Redic '20. Redic who stood in goal for Christ School came, up with quite a few key saves in order to help secure the shutout for the Greenies.
Varsity Soccer on the other hand, faced a difficult task against the visiting Lions when they were forced to play a man down just one minute into the contest. At the half, the Greenies remained tied 0-0, but a after barrage of shot attempts from Ben Lee '20, Corey Lavinder '19 and Adam Keever '20, Eric Zhou '19 found the back of the net with 26 minutes remaining in the first half to take a 1-0 lead. Just minutes later, captain Marcus Berger '19 scored off a pass from Connor Hall '20 to put the game out of reach.
"This was a good victory for our team today. We fell behind early, being forced to play with only 10 men, but we remained focused and our guys really came through today," said Head Coach Guy Campbell. "We have a bit of a lay-off now before we face Asheville School and Rabun Gap in two weeks, but we will work to get better and are still fighting to win the conference and make the playoffs."
