Mitch Aiken '04 an Aspiring Voice Over Artist
Christ School graduate lives and works in Charlotte
Golden tone may take on a literal meaning if Mitch Aiken '04 can make it as a voice over artist. After years of encouragement – mostly from complete strangers – the former choir member at Christ School is putting himself out there. Aiken has created a SoundCloud page with demos of his work and says the early feedback has been encouraging. The Charlotte resident talked about his hopes for the future and memories of being a Greenie.
Question: Tell me more about the motivation for this latest venture?
Answer: Well, ever since I can remember, I would meet someone new on a daily basis who would say, "You have an amazing voice. Do you use it? Are you on the radio? Do you sing?" And I would say no. I basically got tired of saying no and wondering why am I not using my voice? So I went to broadcasting school (graduating from Connecticut School of Broadcasting in 2017). By creating the SoundCloud account, I've just been trying to reach out and get some jobs. I'm also pursuing media production jobs in the Charlotte area.
Question: What are you doing, work-wise, while you wait for this to take off?
Answer: I've been an independent marketer for a health and wellness company called Melaleuca. They are based out of Idaho and have been in business since 1985. It's a pretty amazing company and I'm fortunate to have been introduced to them.
Question: What did you take away from your experience at Christ School?
Answer: Wow, that's a good question. I know for sure, one thing is the bonds that you develop. The bonds you develop are lifetime bonds. Whenever I run into old classmates or anyone associated with the school, there is an immediate connection to that community. It's a big help.
