Track and Field Season Preview
Last season, the Christ School track team finished just points away from a 3A State title, which would have been their first since the 1970s. That near-miss has been in the minds of Greenie runners, jumpers, and throwers all year as they look towards this year's State Championship at Ravenscroft School in May.
Under the tutelage and coaching of Randy Ashley, the school's Cross Country and Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Coach, the team dropped eight school records last spring, and have already broken three of those this year with the Long Jump, Triple Jump, and 3200m records falling in early 2018. The team has already seen success in the Indoor season, with three Greenies qualifying for the New Balance Indoor Nationals next month in New York City, in Keyvaun Cobb '19 (400m), Kevin Snyder '19 (Long Jump, Triple Jump, 60m), and Andrew Hammel '20 (3200m).
For the first time in school history the Greenies won the Buncombe County Track and Field Championship Title last year, and with the 2017 WNC Track Athlete of the Year and the 2017 WNC Cross Country Runner of the Year leading the squad, the Greenies are excited for this season to begin. Also returning are Juan Mantilla '19, Joseph Visconti '20, and Kevin Williams '18, all part of school record holding relays, and 110HH State Champion and school record holder Aydan White '20.
