Track Team Shows Out at Buncombe County Championships

 

On Wednesday, March 28th, the Buncombe County Track Championships were held at A.C. Reynolds High School. The County Championships served as the opening meet for the Greenies track squad. The boys squad finished 2nd in a field of 11 teams, with many outstanding performances.
 
The track team was led by the Kevin Snyder '19, Eddy Sherman '19, Aydan White '20, and Keyvaun Cobb '19. The foursome was responsible for about 90 of the team's 155 points. Kevin Snyder won 3 events and anchored the 4 x 100 team to a win. Kevin also set a personal best and new school record of 24-1.75 in the long jump. Eddy Sherman won the 200 meter dash, anchored the 4 x 200 to a school record, and ran an outstanding leg on the winning 4 x 400 team. Aydan White won the 110 hurdles, placed 2nd in the high jump and the 300 meter hurdles, and ran a strong leg on the 4 x 100 meter relay team. And Keyvaun Cobb won the 400 meter dash, anchored the 4 x 400 relay and ran a strong leg of the 4 x 200. Other contributors were Kevin Williams '18, Juan Mantilla '19, Saevion Gibbs '20, Trey Austin '19, who sets PRs in the long jump and triple jump, and Jalen Lecque '19.
 
The school record setting 4 x 200 meter relay team consisted of Keyvaun Cobb, Juan Mantilla, Andrew Redmond, and Eddy Sherman. The time was 1:30.08, which is currently the 7th fastest time in North Carolina.
