Varsity Basketball Upsets Nationally Ranked Norcross (GA) HS

On Monday, the Christ School basketball team headed to Greenville to match-up with perennial powerhouse Norcross (GA) High School in the MLK Classic. Down 19-3 to the start the game, the Greenies five-game win streak appeared to be in peril.

"We knew they were a good team," said Coach Jeff Depelteau, "but I think our team looked at Norcross's 16-2 record and thought we couldn't handle them. I told them to relax and just continue to play the way we've been playing."

After being down by 16 points at the start of the game, the team went on to secure a 64-44 win against a nationally-ranked opponent.

The team was paced by 29 points and many big plays down the stretch from Jalen Lecque '19, as well as strong play from Kojack Thompson '19.

"This was his fourth consecutive game scoring over 15 points, and we needed each one of them to win this game," said Coach Depelteau. "I was also impressed by Brad Halvorsen '19, whose two big threes combined with his effort on the defensive end was key to our victory."

He also praised the play of Justice Ajogbor '20 and Brandon Stone '19, who, though shots weren't falling, "kept working on the glass and on the defensive end of the court, making Norcross score tough and contested shots inside."

The Greenies will play again on Friday against Veritas Christian and in Atlanta against Wheeler HS on Saturday.
