Varsity Lacrosse Season Preview

After a season in which the Greenies won their first 3A NCISAA State Championship, Head Coach Jeff Miles and Christ School lacrosse are back and looking for more. The Greenies finished 17-5, and were even invited to the first ever High School Lacrosse National Tournament sponsored by GEICO in Washington, D.C. A documentary, Leave No Doubt, documented the team's incredible season.

For the first time in three years, the Greenies will be without All-Time Point Leaders Riley Smith '17 (High Point University) and Will Iorio '17 (Coast Guard Academy) and All-Time Goal Leader Joey Cinque '17 (Rollins College), as well as the defensive backbone in Jonah Roberts '17. The team is now be led by Seniors Max Brie, Alex Byron, and Hunter Vines, as well as Goalie Beau Hecimovich '20 and Attackman Davis Lindsey '20.

Head Coach Jeff Miles, who is in his 17th year as Head of the Lacrosse program, said, "We graduated a lot of fantastic players and leaders, but so far this season the energy and camaraderie has been amazing. They're as excited to play as I've seen. We're working hard and having fun, and that's always a recipe for success."

The team will start the season off at home against Greenville High School on March 1st at 5:00PM. The Greenies will then head to Raleigh to participate in the King of Spring tournament, in which they will face 3A opponents North Raleigh Christian, Durham Academy, and Ravenscroft School. The team will once again play in the Champion Challenge in Charlotte on April 7th against Charlotte Catholic. The Greenies will face teams from South Carolina, Washington, Pennsylvania, and Maryland.

There is always pressure for a team attempting to win back-to-back state championship games, in any sport, but the Greenies don't feel it. Christ School, though graduating four D1 lacrosse players, returns a solid core of players. Coach Miles says, "We do have lofty goals, but we don't feel pressure to repeat. The monkey is off our back so to speak. We're taking it one practice and one game at a time. We just want to be as prepared for the playoffs as possible."
