Will DuBose '19 knows it is one thing to be a mature, fully-formed high school student and another to be a newcomer to college. The Class of 2019 should embrace the change on the near horizon, he said Sunday.

Dr. Brent Harris did not have an acceptance speech prepared Friday, but all was forgiven. The second-year member of the Science Department was voted Teacher of the Year by Christ School students, an announcement made in the final Assembly for 2018-19.

Five Greenies took part in the sacramental rite of confirmation during Christ School's last Eucharist Chapel service of the 2018-19 school year – Ashe Hamrick '21, Connor Booher '20, Mitchell Donahoo '21, Peyton Surface '19, and Spencer Strickland '22. According to the Book of Common Prayer, candidates for confirmation "express a mature commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop."

Since last August, Greenies have volunteered 7,747 hours in and around the Asheville community. That averages out to approximately 27 hours per student through various outings, as well as a school-wide Day of Service on September 11.

Christ School Theater will present the William Shakespeare tragedy, "Hamlet," Friday through Sunday. All three shows begin at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

The brotherhood that sets Christ School apart was on full display May 3-5. Greenies turned out in record numbers to make this year's Alumni Weekend one of the best yet.

Oftentimes, the most memorable submissions for Christ School's arts and literary magazine come from unlikely sources. Such is the case again this year. The Struan, a 64-page annual collection of works from Greenie students and faculty, was published last week.

Worshippers have found the natural setting to be spiritually uplifting, tucked away in the woods and within view of a calm lake. And as of Sunday, the new Outdoor Chapel at Christ School bears a familiar name. The Father Kirk Brown Outdoor Chapel was formally dedicated during a special Eucharist service inside St. Joseph's Chapel, and later outside, as part of Alumni Weekend.

Headmaster Paul Krieger said assuredly that Christ School "will not be the same without them." Pingree Auditorium was full of appreciative Greenies who could not have agreed more. Tributes to Leigh Harris and Mary Jane Morrison highlighted Saturday's Alumni Awards and Hall of Fame Induction, part of Alumni Weekend at Christ School.

Seniors have reached the homestretch of their time at Christ School and Friday was a reminder of what a bright future awaits. College Spirit Day is organized each year by the College Guidance Office, allowing Greenies to proudly display their university of choice with a shirt.

Thursday was a different kind of Senior Speech, but one welcomed by everyone in St. Joseph's Chapel.

Leigh Harris addressed his upcoming retirement after 29 years at Christ School. His words to students and faculty in Chapel were met with rapt attention and then a standing ovation.

Kilian Mittermeier '21 and Teo Beleuta '20 knew the clock was ticking from the moment they arrived at Christ School in August. Both international students are limited to only one year as Greenies through the ASSIST exchange program.

Christ School's Quiz Bowl team has every intention of proving this adage true at the Small School National Championship Tournament.

Back in the 1980s when Richard Haake '87 was a Greenie, in addition to all the other festivities held during Alumni Weekend, he remembers a special tradition that took place throughout the night. "There were certain alumni who would come back every year and there was a little covered pavilion that was set up back behind the old Frat House, and they would do a Carolina Pig Roast with cinderblocks and a fire," said Haake, who is Christ School's Alumni Council President. While pork has remained on the Alumni Weekend menu ever since, the pig roast tradition had disappeared. Haake aims to change that this year.

"Hamlet" will be performed May 10-12 in Pingree Theater with a showtime of 7:30 p.m. each night. All shows are free and open to the public.

"We are excited to have Coach Cioce take the reigns of a program that he has been a part of not only as a player, but also as a coach this past season," Thorp said. "Matt understands the expectations on the student-athletes as members of the Christ School community and his emphasis on discipline and skill development blends very well with his player-focused approach.

Christ School was honored to have 160 Greenie Moms join us for Mother/Son Weekend.

Twenty-seven members of Christ School's Class of 2020 were inducted into the National Honor Society on Friday.

The entire Class of 2019 and Habitat leaders for the Greenies attended a ceremonial key passing about four miles from campus. Kerri Collosso and her family will soon move into the 884-square foot home.

Freeman put a decade worth of research into her first book and said she is indebted to Christ School for its help since her initial visit to campus in 2011.

"I have followed the school with great enthusiasm since then," Freeman said. "It is a real privilege to be here with you. This may be 2019, but the same ideals that are in place now are what Barton took with him."
