Thursday was an open and shut case for Jakob Iwanek ’24.
With Christ School varsity baseball clinging to a 10-9 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, Jakob broke the game open at the plate, punching a ball into right-center field.
Three runs scored and the sophomore found himself standing on third base. Not only that, Jakob needed to throw just nine pitches in the seventh inning to slam the door on Asheville School for a 14-9 home win.
Jakob and Webb Hughes ’22 had two hits apiece for Christ School (5-8, 1-1) in its first Carolinas Athletic Association win. Leadoff Brody Raleigh ’23 hit a two-RBI double.
The Greenies got one RBI each from Webb, Chase Gribble ‘23, Jake Gravley ‘24, and Will Walker ‘25. Ethan Rose ’24 stole three bases and Webb stole two.
Christ School cycled through five different pitchers, but never trailed again after plating five runs in the bottom of the first inning. The team is back home Friday for a JV-Varsity doubleheader with Lugoff-Elgin (S.C.) that begins at 4:30 p.m.
