CANDLER – Tuesday night’s season opener for Christ School varsity baseball only went four innings, more than enough for the team to wear out the basepaths at Bob Lewis Ballpark.
Garin Gosnell ‘28, Corbin Spilliards ‘27, and Henry Tutera ‘28 had three RBIs apiece in a 21-1 mercy rule win over the Asheville Trailblazers.
Henry’s two-run homer in the top of the fourth inning – the first of the year by any Greenie batter – was the last of 11 hits on the night. Corbin, Garin, and Will Ray ‘27 legged out triples. Garin, Will, Cam Walker ‘27, and starting pitcher Patrick Robichaud ‘27 hit doubles. Patrick (3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 SO) and later Cam in relief (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 SO) combined to hold the Trailblazers to two hits.
The JV team also won by mercy rule Tuesday night, 11-1.
The Trailblazers are a team made up of players who are home-schooled as well as from Carolina Day, which does not have a varsity team this spring.
The varsity team travels to Charlotte Providence Day on Friday, while the JV is here at home against the Chargers. Both games start at 4 p.m.
