Christ School basketball players waded into a jubilant student section Thursday night.
The Greenies wanted to say thanks for the support after the season's final home game, but they did plenty on their own to liven up Mebane Field House. The offense was patient and precise throughout a 75-50 victory over Charlotte Country Day in the second round of the NCISAA 4-A state playoffs.
Charlie Browder ’21, who has seen his stock as a college football prospect soar in recent weeks, battled inside for a team-high 18 points. He was joined in double figures by Justice Ajogbor ’20 (17 points) and DeAnte Green ’22 (13 points).
With the score 13-12 in Christ School’s favor, the Greenies went on a 10-1 run to end the first quarter. The outsized Buccaneers (9-20) were never within striking distance again. Christ School led by 17 points at halftime and by 23 points at the end of three quarters.
Additional scorers were Drew Redmond ’21 (seven points), Zack Myers ’23 (seven), Adam Keever ’20 (six), Gabe Berardi ’22 (four), and Jack Britts ‘22 (three)
The fifth-seeded Greenies (13-12) advance to Saturday’s state quarterfinal round at No. 4 Charlotte Latin (20-7). Saturday’s game will be played at 6 p.m. in Charlotte.
