RABUN GAP, Ga. – Winning does not cure everything, but it sure helps.
There was some real angst over who or who might not be available Friday due to a flu bug which has ripped through the Christ School locker room.
The best medicine was outscoring Rabun Gap, 43-15, in the second and third quarters to pick up another hugely important road win in the Carolinas Athletic Association, 73-38.
Almost every player contributed on offense Friday: Mikey Wilkins ‘25 (13 points), Keenan Wilkins ‘24 (12), USC Upstate recruit Jamari Briggs ‘24 (11), Bruce White ‘24 (eight), Madden Collins ‘25 (six), Lleyton Thomas-Johnson ’24 (six), Cole Boyer ‘24 (six), Mason Collins ’28 (five), T.J. Hamilton ’24 (four), and Calvin Williams ’24 (two).
Christ School (15-4, 3-0) had the edge in rebounding, and for the most part, was able to create turnovers with its full-court pressure. Mikey, one of the players hit the hardest by whatever sickness is going around this week, did a great job scoring and facilitating with assists Friday.
The Greenies opened the second quarter with a 9-1 run and were up 35-20 at halftime on an Eagles team that had not played since Dec. 16. Christ School and Rabun Gap (4-10, 0-1) shared last year’s CAA championship with Asheville School when all three teams went 6-2 in the league.
Speaking of the Blues, they are the next opponent for the Greenies, who are on the road again Tuesday. The game times in west Asheville will be 4:30 p.m. for the JV and 6 for the varsity.
