Basketball Wins Third Game at George Lynch Invitational

CHARLOTTE – Winning ugly is still winning.

Christ School varsity basketball flirted with disaster Friday after taking a 14-point lead into the fourth quarter but got back into the win column at the Phenom Hoops George Lynch Invitational.

Davidson Day spread the floor and had ample time to get off a potential game-tying 3-pointer. Thankfully, it was an airball in a 41-38 Greenie win.

Phenom Hoops awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Lleyton Thomas-Johnson on Thursday and 24 hours later deemed him the MVP of Friday’s game with 15 points, six rebounds, and two steals. USC Upstate recruit Jamari Briggs ’24 (six points, three rebounds, and one steal), Keenan Wilkins ’24 (six points, five assists, and two steals), and Mikey Wilkins ’25 (five points, seven rebounds, four blocks, and two steals) were other statistical leaders for Christ School (3-1).

Lleyton had 11 of his points by the half and the Greenies were seemingly in control, 24-14. The Patriots (2-1) had other ideas. George Mason recruit Bryson Cokley ’24 (four points), Jo Ahart ’25 (two), T.J. Hamilton ’24 (two), and Madden Collins ’25 (one) rounded out the scorers for Christ School.

Friday’s game was played at Myers Park High School. Davidson Day was another quality opponent, having been No. 6 in the latest statewide NCISAA rankings from Phenom Hoops. The Greenies held down the top spot, but that was before Tuesday’s 44-43 loss at Charlotte’s Victory Christian. They finish out their weekend in Charlotte with Saturday night's 6:30 p.m. game against Julius Chambers.
