Chad Treadway ‘19 acclimated to college baseball quicker than most young pitchers and was moving up the chain at Georgia State University.

The Christ School alumnus had gone from the bullpen to a weekend starter prior to the Panthers’ season being ended abruptly by the COVID-19 pandemic in March. Treadway showed enough in 16.1 innings of work to be named to the Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American team.

Treadway, a right-hander from Asheville, led Georgia State with a 2.20 earned run average and 23 strikeouts. He ranked second in the Sun Belt Conference and 25th among all NCAA pitchers in hits allowed per nine innings (3.86). He was No. 5 in the Sun Belt with an average of 12.67 strikeouts per nine innings.

Treadway threw five scoreless innings in his first college start – a 3-1 win over North Alabama on March 8. He scattered two hits with six strikeouts. Treadway is majoring in Business and made the Dean’s List for the fall and spring semesters at Georgia State, which is located in Atlanta.

Georgia State shortstop Will Mize also made the Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American team.

“As a coaching staff and organization, we are so happy they have been recognized as Freshman All-Americans,” Panthers coach Brad Stromdahl said. “Will and Chad, along with many other players, contributed to what was an outstanding start for their first year playing college baseball. These two, along with so many others in our program, make the future light up, and I am so excited to get back to work on the field. They deserve the recognition for their play on the field, and we are thrilled to see them perform over the next few years.”
