Christ School varsity football has not shied away from challenges throughout the best decade in the program’s history.
That isn’t changing anytime soon.
Five home games, starting with a Big South Conference tilt against Charlotte Latin on Aug. 19 and bookended by the 96th installment of “The Game” versus Asheville School on Oct. 29, highlight the Greenies’ schedule for 2022.
Second-year head coach Chad Walker is eager to see how his team matches up with Florida powerhouse Carrollwood Day under the lights of Fayssoux Field on Sept. 2, a week before Christ School hosts Legion Collegiate (S.C.).
The Greenies’ next-to-last game of conference play is home on Oct. 14 with Charlotte Country Day.
Road games are Aug. 26 at Polk County, Sept. 16 at Rabun Gap (Ga.), Sept. 23 at Charlotte Providence Day, Oct. 7 at Metrolina Christian, and Oct. 21 at Charlotte Christian. Kickoff times will be 7 p.m., with the exception of Polk County (7:30) and Asheville School (1:30).
“We are excited for our 2022 campaign here at Christ School as we keep raising our standard,” Coach Walker said.
“Last year we completed the regular season with the toughest strength of schedule (according to MaxPreps) in the entire state of North Carolina, and this season will be no different. We are fortunate to play in the NCISAA Big South Conference, which is as competitive as it gets in North Carolina (and Georgia), and our nonconference opponents are playoff teams in their respected states.”
Christ School has won 10 consecutive games over Asheville School, a record for either side of the oldest rivalry in the Carolinas. And the Greenies were the last team to beat Providence Day in 2021 with the Chargers going on to win the NCISAA Division I state championship.
“We are returning a lot of talent on both sides of the football and have added some new faces from around campus that have focused on other sports until now,” Coach Walker said.
“It will be an exciting year for high school football on campus as a lot of future college talent will be running around every Friday night with highly touted recruits like Zack Myers ‘23, Dylan Lindsey '23, Tray Mauney ’23, Quinton Cancel ’23, Cayden Jones ’24, Cooper Perone ’24, Josh Harrison ’24, and Ashton Parker ‘24 among many others.”
