It has hardly been a boring offseason for Greenie basketball.
College programs from far and wide have made it a priority to recruit the Big 3 of Anthony Robinson ’23, Emanuel Richards ’23, and Bryson Cokley ’24 since their last game for Christ School.
Each of the players found their best fit. Bryson announced on his social media Friday that he has verbally committed to Wake Forest, following similar posts by Anthony (South Florida) and Emanuel (Longwood).
Monday was the first official day of practice for all basketball teams in the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association.
Second-year head coach Josh Coley has laid out a challenging nonconference schedule for the Greenies, who figure to be one of the top contenders in NCISAA 4-A. All game times on the attached schedule are p.m., with away games denoted by “at” and neutral court games denoted by “vs.”
Additionally, here are a few significant notations:
- Dec. 2: CNHY Showcase 2022 @ Cardinal Newman School in Columbia, S.C.
- Dec. 3: Battle at the Rock in Rock Hill, SC
- Dec. 13: Silent Night Game
- Dec. 19-20: Lemon Street Classic at Marietta (Ga.) High School.
- Jan. 7: QC Extravaganza in Charlotte.
- Feb. 3-4: In New Orleans
- Feb. 10: Senior Night
Emanuel (19.3 points per game and 5.2 rebounds per game last season) and Anthony (9.3 rpg. and 9.2 ppg. last season) were All-Carolinas Athletic Association selections for a Christ School team which won 16 games and advanced to last winter's quarterfinals of the NCISAA 4-A state playoffs. Fellow seniors Matthew Pethel '23 and Ty Dixon '23 have varsity experience as well.
Lleyton Thomas-Johnson '24 was the top player for Carolinas Athletic Association rival Carolina Day a year ago, while Keenan Wilkins '24 scored 1,641 career points for Hendersonville. Jamari Briggs '24 averaged 17 points per game for Hartsville (S.C.). They are part of a talented group of newcomers that should contribute right away.
