Looking back, 1933 was quite the formative year for Christ School.
The Greenies and Asheville School made their football rivalry an annual thing, the same year the Lessons and Carols candlelight service began.
Legendary Headmaster David Page Harris was only eight years into his 42-year tenure at the first Lessons and Carols, and Father Charles Boynton was new for the 1933-34 academic year. Together, the two men saw the need for a Christmas service of readings and music.
The 91st Lessons and Carols begins Sunday at 6 p.m. in St. Joseph's Chapel. Space will be limited as this is an all-school event.
As is tradition, the chapel is illuminated only by candles as everyone sings the final carol of the evening, "Silent Night."
