Championship culture comes before trophies in Clint Alexander’s playbook, with his essentials to success being the core values of discipline, leadership, and unselfishness.
Coach Alexander has built winning programs and taught, mentored, and coached adolescent boys into men of character everywhere he has been in 29 years with this as a foundation, from large public schools to small independent schools.
Following a competitive and nationwide search, Christ School is pleased to introduce Clint Alexander as our new Football Program Director and Varsity Coach.
Coach Alexander comes to Arden from another all-boys school, Blue Ridge School in Saint George, Va. The Barons went undefeated (11-0) and were Virginia Division II state champions last fall. They were 9-2 and state runners-up in 2023, and 5-4 in 2022. Clint inherited a program three years ago that only had a half-dozen varsity players and quickly built the roster to 32 in his first 12 months. He is also a highly recognized History teacher and was named 2020 Teacher of the Year in the Saginaw Valley Conference.
“We are delighted to welcome Coach Clint Alexander, his wife Elaine, and their family to Christ School’s community,” Head of School Dr. Sean Jenkins said.
“What we learned in the course of our national search is that Clint both believes in and lives the values that are important to us at Christ School. He values relationships over success, he is committed to the education of boys – knowing each boy and developing the whole boy to become the best version of himself. He is a brilliant football mind, a decorated and accomplished teacher, and he has an extraordinary record of building teams and winning with the teams he has built. He is a fierce competitor who values hard work – in the classroom, on the playing field, and in life.”
Coach Alexander’s background includes a 12-year stint at Woodberry Forest (Va.) from 2005 to 2016 where he compiled an 83-32-1 record. He has sent more than 100 players to Division I college programs, including five to the NFL. Clint is a 12-time Coach of the Year award winner and a former head coach of the U-18 USA National Team. Coach Alexander holds a B.A. degree from Olivet College (Mich.) and has a special passion for military history. He will often insert quotes from respected leaders into his own message.
In his plan for developing a culture at Christ School, Coach Alexander bullet-pointed 25 different initiatives. He singled out No. 20 (Values Meetings) as the most important part of the program. It will entail regular discussions amongst the players, finishing with a question of why they play the game of football.
"I am honored to become the Football Program Director and a member of the varsity coaching staff at Christ School," Coach Alexander said.
"My family is excited about becoming a part of Christ School's tradition of excellence in academics, leadership development, spirituality, and the dignity of manual labor. We are looking forward to the new opportunities and challenges that await us at Christ School."
Football in the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association has never been stronger.
Christ School is coming off a 4-5 season under former coach Chad Walker (now the Head Coach at Pace University in New York), in which the Greenies played what was regarded as one of the toughest schedules in the state. They have advanced to the semifinals of the NCISAA Division I playoffs the last three seasons and won the Division II championship in 2020. Their winning streak over Asheville School in the Carolinas' oldest rivalry now stands at a series record 13 years.
A total of 36 Christ School players have continued their careers at the college level since 2021. Two alumni have submitted their names into consideration for the upcoming NFL draft – Aydan White ’20 and Kaedin Robinson ’19.
Christ School would like to thank interim coach Patrick Dansdill for his commitment and leadership during this time of transition for the program. We continue to wish the best for the Walker family (Chad, Victoria, and Elle) in their next chapter at Pace.
This search for a new Greenie coach was made extra meaningful by the assistance of independent school marketing and creative agency, 38 House. The co-founders are former Athletic Director Eric Thorp ‘01 and our former Director of Communications, Graylyn Loomis ‘10. Christ School thanks 38 House for all their efforts in the search.
