The Stay family oven has been working overtime this week.

Eighth grader Elliott Stay ’27 has been happily overwhelmed with interest since announcing Monday in Assembly that he would be putting his baking talent to a charitable use. Elliott is accepting orders through the Christ School community for homemade cookies, with all proceeds benefitting those affected by the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

His story even caught the attention of WLOS News 13, who interviewed Elliott for a story on its Wednesday newscast. WLOS is the local ABC TV affiliate in the Asheville area.

“Anyone can take something they enjoy, do it more, and just help raise awareness, raise money, just get more people looking in that direction,” Elliott told WLOS.

Elliott is selling individual cookies ($1 each) or a dozen ($10) in these flavors: M&M, chocolate chip, peanut butter, oatmeal, and chocolate nut. Allergen-free options are available as well.

Elliott has been collecting money before school in the media center and during the day through his father, Registrar and Executive Assistant to the Head of School Steve Stay P’27.

Demand has been so strong for the cookies that Elliott is unable to fill orders outside the school. Instead, the family asks that donations be made directly to UNICEF or the International Federations of Red Cross and Red Crescent.
