What looks to be the fastest cross country team in Christ School history is only getting faster.
Seven of the eight Greenies who raced Saturday morning ran personal-record or season-best times at the Eye Opener meet in Spartanburg, S.C. Christ School placed fourth as a team in the Invitational Boys division with 211 points, the best showing by any North Carolina school in the multi-state field.
Individually, Andrew Hammel ’20 was the race runner-up (15 minutes, 51.30 seconds). Fellow senior Joseph Visconti ’20 also recorded a season-best time (16:35.80) to place 14th. Rocky Hansen ’23 (20th place, 16:47.40) and Dawson Reeves ’24 (60th, 17:31.70) came away from the Roger Milliken Center course with personal records. Ethan Kemp ’21 (18:44.00) ran a season best. Other personal records were set by Jack Cross ’22 (18:59.60) and Jack Fitch ’20 (19:19.90). Miles Gardner ’20 (212th, 19:37.90) rounded out a strong all-around effort by the Buncombe County champions.
The next meet for Christ School is the Hare & Hounds Invitational on Sept. 21 in Charlotte. Hare & Hounds will be invaluable experience for the Greenies as it is being held on the same course (McAlpine Greenway) as the NCISAA 4-A state meet.
