Look past the name. The WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C., has become one of the state’s real proving grounds for cross country.
And Christ School runners proved themselves Saturday morning.
The Greenies placed sixth out of 33 teams at the stacked Adidas Cross Country Challenge, with Rocky Hansen ’23 winning the individual championship in a brisk 14 minute, 45 seconds. The time was a meet record by 14 seconds, and the second-fastest ever in any race by a North Carolina boys runner.
Saturday’s race at WakeMed went out fast with a 4:39 split for the leaders at the first mile and 9:38 through 2 miles. Rocky finished 15 seconds ahead of the the runner-up.
As a team, Christ School (253) was 62 points better than its closest NCISAA competition – 12th place Cary Academy (315). Scoring runners for the Greenies were Rocky, Dawson Reeves ’24 (29th place, 15:46.40), Kahzi Sealey ’23 (58th, 16:19.10), Luke Parrish ’24 (87th, 16:47.70) and Dallas Reeves ‘27 (108th, 16:56.10).
The next race for the Greenies is a Carolinas Athletic Association meet Thursday at Asheville School.
