Dawson Reeves '24 Named WNC Athlete of the Year

For the fourth consecutive year, the Asheville Citizen-Times All-Western North Carolina Athlete of the Year for outdoor track is a Greenie.

Congratulations, Dawson Reeves!

Dawson graduated last month as undisputably one of the all-time greats in local distance running.

The cherry on top was going 4-for-4 in his final state meet – the NCISAA Division I Championship held May 18 and 19 in Cary, N.C. – winning the 800-meter run (1:54.71), the 1,600 (4:12.21), and the 3,200 (9:12.31). Dawson teamed with Dallas Reeves ’27, Luke Parrish ’24, and Patrick Wang ’24 to take first place in the 3,200 relay (7:58.36), propelling the Greenies to their fifth team state championship.

“What a special culmination of a great career at Christ School,” Greenies coach Randy Ashley said following the state meet.

“It stinks that the Dawson era is over, but our cross country and track teams are at a higher level because of him. The school records are off the charts.”

Dawson’s hometown is Canton, N.C., and he has signed to run college cross country and track for Duke.
