Back-to-back in one of the Southeast’s premier meets for distance running.
Congratulations to Christ School senior Dawson Reeves ’24 for repeating as the boys 1-mile champion Saturday at the Carolina Distance Carnival hosted by Weddington High School.
Dawson ran in the 23rd and final heat of the night, winning in 4 minutes, 8.45 seconds. Two other runners broke 4:09, including runner-up Cole Boone of Pulaski County, Va. (4:08.60). A bell lap of 58.40 was the fastest of Dawson’s four laps.
There were as many as 27 athletes in some of the heats and runners from five different states in Dawson’s race. Lighting delays caused to the meet to end after 10 p.m.
The Duke University recruit’s time on Saturday is a little more than a four-second improvement over what Dawson ran at the 2023 Carolina Distance Carnival (4:12.62).
