This is the year for Dawson Reeves ’24.
The senior from Canton, N.C., has solidified it by announcing his verbal commitment to run cross country and track for Duke University.
Dawson is a three-time all-state and three-time all-conference runner for Christ School cross country, having placed second individually in the NCISAA 4-A state meet the past two years. Historically, he has run two of the top-10 times for the Greenies, with this past Saturday’s effort at the adidas Cross Country Challenge in Cary, N.C., (15:16.60) coming in at No. 10.
Dawson was the 2020 Carolinas Athletic Association Runner of the Year.
In regards to track, he owns the school record for the indoor 800-meter run (1:53.31) and won national championships in the mile at last school year’s adidas Nationals indoor and outdoor meets. He has been a state champion three times – once in the 1,600-meter run indoors and twice as a relay member for the Greenies’ 3,200-meter relay.
Dawson is the seventh senior from Christ School's Class of 2024 to make a college sports commitment. The Greenies do have some history with the Duke program as Athletic Hall of Famer Andy Taylor ’87 ran for the Blue Devils. Andy went on to become a team MVP for Duke cross country and found his niche in college track with the 1,500 meters.
