Dawson Reeves '24 Wins Third Track National Championship

GREENSBORO – Watching someone as fit as Dawson Reeves '24 labor through the 2,000-meter steeplechase puts the race’s difficulty into perspective.

Now consider that Friday was the first 90-degree day of 2024.

Dawson was undaunted in becoming a national champion for the third time in his track career, winning at the adidas Outdoor Nationals meet in 6:11.70.

Billy Driscoll of Peninsula Catholic (Va.) came in second (6:18.34). The race started at 6:45 p.m., but by then, North Carolina A&T State University's track had retained plenty of heat from this year's warmest day so far.
Dawson has signed to run college cross country and track for Duke University. His two previous national championships also came in adidas meets. He holds the school record for the 2,000 steeplechase (6:06.71), which is not a sanctioned event in most North Carolina meets.

On top of that, few Greenies in any sport can say they went out better in their final contest wearing a Christ School jersey. Dawson’s four state championships at last month’s NCISAA Division I meet were what propelled the Greenies to the team title.
