Dean of Academics Emily Pulsifer touts the culture and curriculum of Christ School whenever she can, as the mother of two saw firsthand the effect the school community and an all-boys education had on Liam ’15 and Zach ’17.

Mrs. Pulsifer was recently interviewed by the World News Group for an article which delves into national studies that have shown boys are falling behind girls in terms of completing high school and college.

An excerpt from the article:

When Emily Pulsifer visited Christ School, she doubted she would accept a position. Since moving to North Carolina, she missed her students at a Maine co-ed boarding and day school. But she wasn’t sure she wanted to teach at an all-boys school.

On campus, Pulsifer met boys leading the student council, student clubs, and theater and literature projects—programs that at other schools she more often saw girls head up. “It’s wonderful to see and be part of a community where the boys are doing all those things,” she said. “They’re freed up of some of the inhibitions that they might have about taking those leadership roles.”

Head of School Dr. Sean Jenkins appointed Mrs. Pulsifer to her current leadership position last summer. She has been a member of the Christ School faculty since 2009, formerly chaired the English Department, and was voted by the students to be our 2019-20 Teacher of the Year.

Christ School’s mission is to produce educated men of good character, prepared for both scholastic achievement in college and productive citizenship in adult society.
