Declan Szostczuk ’26 looked over at the linesman for confirmation, but he was onsides for his third goal Tuesday.
In fact, the junior from Candler, N.C., seemed to be everywhere he needed to be in the fifth straight shutout for Christ School varsity soccer.
Declan put up nine points (four goals and an assist), starting the scoring just 1 minute, and 6 seconds into a 9-0 win over visiting East Henderson.
Costa Barlas ’26, Davis Campbell ’28, Wyatt Campbell ’27, Sam Farago ’26, and Josh Mwagomba ’25 added a goal apiece for the Greenies (6-1-0), who were able to substitute liberally throughout. Goalkeeper Felix Huebner ’26 (one save) was even subbed in late in the second half as a field player.
Assists were given out by Taz Kasambara ’26 (two), Josh, Wyatt, Wells Edwards ’25, Wyatt Haddock ’27, and Salvador Neme ’26.
Christ School has a day to recoup before Thursday’s home game with Rabun Gap (9-2-1), which will determine the early leader in the Carolinas Athletic Association. The Greenies are 1-0 in the conference and the Eagles are 2-0 after their 3-1 win over Asheville Christian Academy on Tuesday.
JV Greenies 2, East Henderson 0
Henry Tutera ‘28 scored his fifth goal in as many games Tuesday and Shepard Searcy ’27 had his first for the JV Greenies. The clean sheet went to Max Rodriguez ’29.
