SAGE Dining chef Hassan Abassary was the MVP of the first day back from Winter Break.
Hassan talked with Mr. Brenneman's Arabic III students about his life in Morocco and Moroccan culture, as well as his journey to becoming a chef here. Mr. Brenneman said that one of the most interesting aspects of the talk was comparing Hassan’s Moroccan dialect with the standard and Levantine dialects used in his class.
What makes Wednesday’s visit even more impressive is Hassan was the driving force behind one of the most epic lunches of the 2024-25 school year – a variety of smoked meat including brisket, ribs and BBQ chicken quarters (with vegetarian protein options as well), house-made hush puppies, gouda macaroni and cheese, baked beans, green beans, buttermilk cornbread, and more. Hassan spent multiple days smoking all the meat.
For dessert, there were Cheerwine ice cream floats on the patio of Stolz Dining Hall and a special soft drink truck parked in Wetmore Circle.
