Football Achieves No. 1 Ranking in WNC

Taking the field

Christ School football’s steady rise has not gone unnoticed, both locally and beyond.

The program achieved another first Saturday by taking over the No. 1 position in the Asheville Citizen-Times’ weekly rankings for western North Carolina. Christ School (1-0) came into the season ranked No. 2 among the 31 private and public-school teams covered by the newspaper.

Friday’s 35-20 win over nine-time state champion University Christian (Fla.) has also pushed the Greenies to No. 16 in MaxPreps’ computer-generated rankings for all statewide programs. Christ School is the highest-ranked NCISAA program in the MaxPreps list.

Navy Shuler ’20 passed for five touchdowns Friday – four to Aydan White ’20 and one to Lex Long ’21 – under the lights of Fayssoux Field. Christ School led, 28-13, at halftime. Photos from the game have been posted here

The Greenies are back home Friday for a 7 p.m. game against the Cabarrus Warriors. Cabarrus (0-3) is coached by former Carolina Panthers fan favorite Brad Hoover. Hoover played college football locally for Western Carolina University.
