Weather permitting, this figures to be the busiest week of the season for Christ School varsity basketball.
Starting things off the right way was critical.
Emanuel Richards ’23 scored 16 of his game-high 29 points in the second half Monday night and Bryson Cokley ’24 added 10 points in a 60-45 win over Asheville Christian Academy.
The Greenies (12-9, 3-3) only led by four points at halftime and the score was tied 33-33 with 2:25 remaining in the third quarter. Christ School closed out the quarter with a 6-0 run and was never seriously threatened again.
ACA (9-12, 2-5) and the Greenies have had some of the greatest battles in the recent history of the Carolinas Athletic Association. Christ School’s regular-season sweep of the Lions is its first since the 2016-17 season. The rest of Monday’s scorers for the Greenies were Zack Myers ’24 (eight points), Anthony Robinson ’23 (five), Ty Besses ’22 (three), Johno Pierce ‘23 (three), and Matthew Pethel ’23 (two).
Christ School continues CAA play Wednesday with a 6 p.m. varsity game at Carolina Day that will follow a JV game between the Greenies and Wildcats. There are also middle school, JV, and varsity games with the South Charlotte Thunder scheduled for Friday in the Greenie Dome, along with JV and varsity games Saturday at Asheville School.
