“Each of our journeys is different, and yet remarkable in their own right,” Dr. Sean Jenkins said Thursday.
“This Christmas season, take a moment to think about your journey. The path you see ahead and how you can better the lives of others along the way.”
What a week and what a year it’s been.
Thursday’s speaker for the final chapel service of 2024 was Dr. Jenkins, whose fourth year as Head of School began back in August with a record enrollment of 308 boys from 17 different states and 11 countries.
Dr. Jenkins (seen here at Sunday’s Lessons & Carols candlelight service) started his speech on Thursday by thanking the chapel program leadership, both faculty and students, for making a sacred space like St. Joseph’s Chapel (now in its 117th year) come alive and still feel accessible to all. He talked about his favorite Christmas movies and a much heavier topic – how affected he was by a recent family trip to Poland and getting the see the grounds of the Auschwitz concentration camp.
The theme of journeys was tied together by stories of a historical hero from that era – Witold Pilecki (a Polish World War II cavalry officer, intelligence agent, and resistance leader) – his grandparents, and the ultimate human journey of them all, the birth of Jesus Christ.
